SpartanNash Celebrates Top Women in Grocery
Four Award Winners Based in West Michigan

Grand Rapids, MI, Nov. 16, 2015 — SpartanNash (Nasdaq: SPTN) is proud to announce that ten of its associates have received Top Women in Grocery awards. Four of those associates are based in West Michigan.

The Progressive Grocer Top Women in Grocery awards recognize and celebrate the key role women play across all sectors of the food industry and shine a spotlight on many dynamic leading women from some of the most admired organizations in the U.S. supermarket business. Three hundred women were honored this year, among hundreds of nominations from across the country.

Candidates were nominated for one of three award categories—Rising Stars, Senior Level Executives and Store Managers—which represent all levels in the industry within both the retailer and supplier communities.

Two West Michigan Store Directors, Amy Berry and Nicole Eckhardt, received Store Manager awards.

Amy Berry is the Store Director of D&W Fresh Market Parkview located at 2103 Parkview Ave., Kalamazoo, Michigan. She leads a team of 135 associates at one of SpartanNash’s top performing stores. Berry, who is a three-time President’s Club Award winner, is also engaged in supporting SpartanNash’s strategic community initiatives, including Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics. She is involved with the American Cancer Society, and she shows her leadership and influence with her involvement in the local Literary Club and the Wine Tasters’ Guild.

Nicole Eckhardt is the Store Director of Family Fare located at 2275 Health Drive, SW, Wyoming, Michigan. She has made many improvements in the store’s produce offering (especially organics), restaffed and restructured the store’s pharmacy, and improved the store layout.  Eckhardt has led her team in supporting community efforts, including the Feed Your Furry Friends Food Drive, the Food for Families County Wide Food Drive and the annual Salvation Army Bell Ringers campaign.

Tammy Hurley, VP, Finance, received a Senior Level Executive award. Hurley oversees finance operations for the company.  Following the merger of Spartan Stores and Nash Finch, she has led the integration of the fiscal year, payroll, general and stock ledgers and asset management. She has been a key leader on multidisciplinary teams for systems integration at retail, food distribution and service center operations. She also built a team to provide the executive leadership team and internal finance customers with necessary financial reports. Hurley is a Cub Scout den leader and T-ball coach, and a member of Financial Executives International and of the Michigan Association of CPAs.

Debra Cross, Diversity & Inclusion Manager, received a Rising Star award. She was the primary contributor to the origination and development of the SpartanNash Women Inclusion Network (WIN) employee resource group. Cross provided the necessary leadership and continuity to the WIN Voice team with her quick action and her commitment. Cross was nominated to the newly formed SpartanNash culture committee where she has been a substantial contributor, helping facilitate an eight-month core values campaign and serving as a voice for diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Top Women in Grocery winners were announced in June and were recognized in Progressive Grocer’s June issue. They were formally honored at a gala event in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, Nov. 12. Winners were individually recognized with an engraved award before a crowd of colleagues, invited guests and industry luminaries from across the country.
