‘Better Together Tour’ Kicks Off Grocery Grand Openings in Omaha
On July 22, 2015, watch for the red, locomotive-style trolley at area Family Fare Supermarkets
Grand Rapids, MI, July 21, 2015 – When a company invests money in a community, city leaders, economic developers, and benefiting businesses and contractors take notice. When the investment is $15 million, more than just heads turn. On Wednesday, July 22, one such company aims to celebrate its $15 million dollar investment and ribbon cutting ceremonies in a rather creative way. SpartanNash, owner of Omaha area No Frills, Bag ‘N Save, and Supermercado Nuestra Familia supermarkets, will gather Omaha city officials, legislators, community leaders, and nonprofit partners for the ‘Better Together Tour’ of its six remodeled and rebannered Family Fare supermarkets.
A group of 28 community partners, city officials, and SpartanNash executives will board a local red, locomotive-style trolley and travel in succession from SpartanNash’s Elkhorn store to the Papillion, Harrison, Grover, and Saddle Creek stores for ribbon cutting ceremonies. Instead of using scissors, the Better Together Tour will use the trolley to break the ribbon at each of these stores. While traveling from store to store, community leaders will share how ideas on how they can work with SpartanNash and its Family Fare Supermarkets to enhance the communities served.

During each ceremony, SpartanNash officials will thank the community for their support and continued patience during the remodeling, as well as distribute pallets of Our Family® food to local food pantries, which provide families with a hand up during difficult times. Local fire and police departments will be recognized, and local veterans groups will help raise the American and Honor and Remember flags on newly installed poles outside each store.
In addition to its retail stores and wholesale distribution, SpartanNash is the largest distributor to U.S. Military commissaries and exchanges. Support for active duty and veterans is a core value of the company, so each ribbon cutting will include paying tribute to our military heroes and their families.
SpartanNash President and CEO Dennis Eidson and associates will join city officials, community leaders, and nonprofit partners for the ceremony. Eidson notes: “It is incredible to see everyone’s hard work and collaboration come together as SpartanNash has reinvested over $15 million in the greater Omaha area stores to deliver an exceptional shopping experience. Our vision is to be a best-in-class business that feels local, where relationships matter. This tour is a funway for us to meet with community leaders and build relationships so that we can enhance the communities we serve.”
Ted Adornato, SpartanNash EVP, Retail Operations, oversaw the stores’ redevelopment and adds: “We also are proud and committed to supporting our local farmers and food manufacturers. We know how important providing local, regional and state-made products are to our customers. Our merchandisers are currently working with local growers and producers to carry over 500 Omaha based products.”
The Omaha community is encouraged to join the fun and celebrate with cake and a store tour. During the grand opening week (July 22-25) several in-store events, demos, samples, activities, games and giveaways, and promotions are scheduled. See individual stores for details.
