SpartanNash Donates $15,000 to Local Youth Hockey Associations
Red Wings’ Mickey Redmond Presents Donations at Grand Rapids Expo
Grand Rapids, MI, July 17, 2015 — Thursday, July 17, 2015, was a very special day for three local youth hockey associations. Not only did each association receive a check for $5,000, but they had the opportunity to meet hockey legend Mickey Redmond. Redmond presented the checks on behalf of SpartanNash and Kraft Heinz Company at a breakfast at SpartanNash’s 2015 Grand Rapids Expo at DeVos Place (303 Monroe Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503).
The three associations are:
- The Grand Rapids Blades (www.grblades.org)
- The Fox Motor’s Hockey Club (www.foxmotorshockey.com)
- The Grand Rapids Amateur Hockey Association (www.graha.org)
Redmond, who also signed autographs at the event, played right wing for the Montreal Canadiens from 1967-1971 before being traded to the Detroit Red Wings. After suffering a back injury that forced him to retire in 1976 at age 28, he built a successful hockey broadcasting career, including national telecasts on ESPN and Fox Sports. He has been a color commentator for Red Wings television for 20 years.
“At SpartanNash, our vision is to be a best-in-class that feels local, where relationships matter,” said Meredith Gremel, SpartanNash VP, Corporate Affairs and Communications. “Giving back is part of our commitment to our customers, consumers, and communities. We sponsor over 1,900 events a year in the communities we serve, and we volunteer thousands of hours with our community partners.”
The Grand Rapids Expo is a private event for retailers, which ran July 15 through July 16. The 2015 event filled 160,000 square feet. The more than 80,000 pounds of product displayed at the Expo was donated to local charities through Access of West Michigan.
