Dennis Eidson was named the company’s Chief Executive Officer in October 2008, utilizing his more than 20 years of executive experience in the grocery retail and distribution industry. He has served on the SpartanNash Board of Directors since 2007 and was elected Chairman at the company’s annual shareholders meeting in June 2016.
Previously, Eidson served as the company’s President (2007-2016), Chief Operating Officer (2007-08) and Executive Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising (2003-07).
Prior to joining SpartanNash, Eidson served as the Divisional President and Chief Executive Officer of A&P’s Midwest Region (2000-02), Executive Vice President of Sales and Merchandising of A&P’s Midwest Region (2000) and Vice President of Merchandising for A&P’s Farmer Jack division (1997-2000).
David M. Staples has served as Chief Operating Officer since March 2015, overseeing SpartanNash’s food distribution, retail and military segments in addition to information technology and real estate. In August 2016, he was appointed President of the company, leading SpartanNash’s overall strategy implementation and execution.
Staples previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for 15 years and Vice President of Finance for a year. He also performed the duties of Chief Financial Officer on an interim basis until April 2016, when Christopher Meyers joined the company.
Staples served as Divisional Vice President of Strategic Planning and Reporting for Kmart Corporation (1998-2000) and Divisional Vice President of Accounting Operations (1997-98). He is a certified public accountant.
Staples sits on the board for the Grand Rapids Symphony and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Michigan State University, holding a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Ted holds the title of Executive Vice President Retail Operations for SpartanNash. He has served in that position for Spartan Stores since joining the Company in 2003. He directed the operations of Spartan’s retail supermarkets and Quick Stop Fuel and Convenience Centers. Before joining Spartan, Mr. Adornato served as Regional Vice President of Tops Markets, L.L.C., Eastern Region, a subsidiary of Royal Ahold, from 1998 to 2003. Previously, Mr. Adornato held various management positions with Tops Markets and Acme Markets, Inc.
Ed Brunot is the Executive Vice President SpartanNash and President of MDV. Ed served as Executive Vice President and President and Chief Operating Officer of MDV since March 2012. Prior to that, Ed served as Senior Vice President and President and Chief Operating Officer of MDV. He joined Nash Finch in July 2006 as Senior Vice President, Military. Ed previously served as Senior Vice President, Operations for AmeriCold Logistics, LLC, where he was responsible for 29 distribution facilities in the Western Region. Before that, Ed was Vice President of Operations for CS Integrated.
David deS. Couch is the Vice President Information Technology and Chief Information Officer and is responsible for the strategy, implementation and support of systems for retail, distribution and corporate operations. Prior to his current position Dave was Vice President Information Technology at Spartan Stores. Dave joined Spartan Stores in November 1987. Prior to joining Spartan Stores, Dave was a Product Manager for the Colorado Telecommunication Division of Hewlett Packard Corporation. Previously he held the position of Technical Services Manager for the Loveland Instrument Division of Hewlett Packard Corporation. Dave joined Hewlett Packard in April 1979. Dave started his career as Manager of Computer Services at General Foods Corporation in Battle Creek Michigan and later on the Processing Facilities Design Team for General Foods in White Plains, New York. Dave has taught college classes in communications and data center management. He holds a BS degree in Business Administration and a MS degree in Computer Science from University of Arizona.
Tammy Hurley was appointed Chief Accounting Officer in August 2016. She was previously named Vice President, Finance in 2015, overseeing accounting, financial reporting, taxes and financial shared services.
Since joining SpartanNash as a Controller in 2001, Hurley has held finance roles of increasing responsibility. She was promoted to Director of Finance in 2002 and held the title until taking over the role of Vice President, Finance.
Hurley is a certified public accountant, with professional associations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.
She is a graduate of Ferris State University, holding a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Derek R. Jones was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President and President of Wholesale and Distribution Operations in March 2015. He previously served as EVP of Food Distribution – a title he held for four years – as well as EVP of Retail Operations in 2013. He was also Spartan Stores’ EVP of Supply Chain (2006-09).
From 2004 to 2006, Jones was Vice President of Distribution for Unisource Worldwide, Inc., a marketer and distributor of printing and imaging systems and equipment. Prior to that, he was Regional Vice President of Supply Chain Operations for Office Depot, Inc., a global supplier of office products and services.
A board member for the National Grocers Association, Jones earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas.
Kathy Mahoney was named to Chief Legal Officer in December 2015, having served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at SpartanNash since November 2013. Kathy was previously the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Nash Finch since November 2009. Prior to that, Ms. Mahoney served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Nash Finch since July 2006. She joined Nash Finch as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel in November 2004. Before working at Nash Finch, she was the Managing Partner of the St. Paul office of Larson King, LLP from July 2002 to November 2004. Previously, she spent 13 years with the law firm of Oppenheimer, Wolff & Donnelly, LLP, where she served in a number of capacities including Managing Partner of their St. Paul office, Chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group and Chair of the EEO Committee. Ms. Mahoney was also the Special Assistant Attorney General in the Minnesota Attorney General’s office for six years.
Chris Meyers joined SpartanNash in April 2016 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Meyers oversees accounting, financial planning and analysis, treasury, internal audit, risk management, investor relations and merger and acquisition functions for the company.
He previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for Naperville, Ill.-based KeHE Distributors, the second largest natural and organic wholesaler in North America.
Meyers holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in finance, strategy from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He is a certified public accountant.
Larry Pierce was named Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Marketing for SpartanNash in July 2014, a position he held on an interim basis since August 2013. Previously, Pierce was the Vice President of Center Store Merchandising for six years.
Pierce joined the company in 2008 after serving in a variety of positions with Coca-Cola Enterprises, including Vice President of Sales for the supermarket’s mass and convenience channels.
Pierce holds a bachelor’s degree with honors from Michigan State University, where he majored in food systems economics and management. He earned his juris doctorate from the University of Detroit School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
Yvonne Trupiano has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer since October 2016, responsible for talent development, labor relations, compensation and benefits, payroll and HR operations, management and development.
Trupiano joined SpartanNash from Avis Budget Group, where she held the position of Vice President, Human Resources as well as other leadership roles that supported the company’s integration of new businesses, including the 2013 acquisitions of ZipCar and Payless Car Rental.
Trupiano holds a Bachelor of Science, Human Resource Development from Oakland University and a Master of Science, Human Resource Administration from Central Michigan University.
Daniel Persinger joined SpartanNash in 2014, serving as Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary. He previously spent 10 years in private practice at Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, where he represented Spartan Stores in its securities and business transactions.
Persinger is a business attorney focused on securities law, mergers and acquisitions, contracts and corporate compliance. He received his juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School and his bachelor’s in economics from Harvard.
He is President of the Board of Directors of St. Cecilia Music Center, a historic performing arts center in Grand Rapids, Mich. He also serves as Secretary of the SpartanNash Foundation, the charitable giving arm of the company.
