Dennis Eidson was named the company’s Chief Executive Officer in October 2008, utilizing his more than 20 years of executive experience in the grocery retail and distribution industry. He has served on the SpartanNash Board of Directors since 2007 and was elected Chairman at the company’s annual shareholders meeting in June 2016.
Previously, Eidson served as the company’s President (2007-2016), Chief Operating Officer (2007-08) and Executive Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising (2003-07).
Prior to joining SpartanNash, Eidson served as the Divisional President and Chief Executive Officer of A&P’s Midwest Region (2000-02), Executive Vice President of Sales and Merchandising of A&P’s Midwest Region (2000) and Vice President of Merchandising for A&P’s Farmer Jack division (1997-2000).
He currently serves on the boards of the SpartanNash Foundation, Food Marketing Institute and The Right Place of Grand Rapids, Mich.
Eidson is a graduate of the Michigan State University Food Management program.
David M. Staples has served as Chief Operating Officer since March 2015, overseeing SpartanNash’s food distribution, retail and military segments in addition to information technology and real estate. In August 2016, he was appointed President of the company, leading SpartanNash’s overall strategy implementation and execution.
Staples previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for 15 years and Vice President of Finance for a year. He also performed the duties of Chief Financial Officer on an interim basis until April 2016, when Christopher Meyers joined the company.
Staples served as Divisional Vice President of Strategic Planning and Reporting for Kmart Corporation (1998-2000) and Divisional Vice President of Accounting Operations (1997-98). He is a certified public accountant.
Staples sits on the board for the Grand Rapids Symphony and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Michigan State University, holding a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Theodore C. Adornato has served as Executive Vice President of Retail Operations since 2003, overseeing the operations of SpartanNash’s retail supermarkets and Quick Stop fuel and convenience centers.
Before joining the Company, Adornato served as Eastern Region Vice President of Tops Markets, LLC, a subsidiary of Royal Ahold, from 1998 to 2003. He also held a variety of management positions with Tops Markets and Acme Markets, Inc.
From 2011 to 2013, Adornato served on the Habitat for Humanity of Kent County Board of Directors. He has also served as a Board Member of the National Grocers Association and JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.
Adornato holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Binghamton University School of Management.
Since 2013, Edward L. Brunot has served as Executive Vice President of SpartanNash and President of MDV, the leading distributor of grocery products to military commissaries in the United States. He previously served as EVP, President and Chief Operating Officer of MDV (2012-13) and Senior Vice President, President and COO of MDV (2009-12). Brunot joined Nash Finch in July 2006 as Senior Vice President, Military.
Previously, Brunot was Senior Vice President of Operations for AmeriCold Logistics, LLC, where he was responsible for 29 distribution facilities in the Western Region. He also served as Vice President of Operations for CS Integrated (1999-2002) and held a variety of management positions – including General Manager of a consolidated food distribution center and Director of Operations – for three General Mills facilities (1992-2001).
Brunot is also a board member for the USO Hampton Roads/Central Virginia and Honor and Remember, a national non-profit working to create and promote a nationally recognized flag to honor all fallen servicemen and servicewomen. He is President of the Board for Vetshouse and Vice Chair of the American Logistics Association.
A recipient of the Bronze Star, Brunot served as a Captain in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. and a master’s degree from the University of Scranton.
David deS. Couch has served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer since 2013. Previously, he served as the company’s Vice President of Information Technology, a title he held since 1996. For five years prior, Couch was Director of Information Technology.
Prior to joining Spartan Stores in 1987, Couch was a Product Manager for the Colorado Telecommunication Division of Hewlett Packard Corporation, Technical Services Manager for the Loveland Instrument Division of Hewlett Packard Corporation and Manager of Computer Services at General Foods Corporation in Battle Creek, Mich. He was also on the Processing Facilities Design Team for General Foods in White Plains, N.Y.
He previously served on the Holland Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.
Couch holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Arizona.
Tammy Hurley was appointed Chief Accounting Officer in August 2016. She was previously named Vice President, Finance in 2015, overseeing accounting, financial reporting, taxes and financial shared services.
Since joining SpartanNash as a Controller in 2001, Hurley has held finance roles of increasing responsibility. She was promoted to Director of Finance in 2002 and held the title until taking over the role of Vice President, Finance.
Hurley is a certified public accountant, with professional associations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.
She is a graduate of Ferris State University, holding a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Robert Kirch has held the role of Executive Vice President and President of Caito Foods, LLC since January 2017, when the companies joined forces to bring fresh produce and fresh protein-based meals and snacks to more consumers throughout the U.S. He previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Caito Foods Services, Inc. from 2005-2012, when he was named President and CEO of Caito Foods.
Kirch has worked in many aspects of the fresh produce distribution and fresh food processing business, including merchandising, operations, procurement, marketing and strategic development.
Kirch serves on the board of the United Fresh Produce Association and is the chairman of its Wholesaler-Distributor Board.
He is a graduate of Butler University, holding both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in marketing.
Kathleen M. Mahoney was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer in November 2015, retaining her previous title of company Secretary. In her current role, Mahoney oversees the company’s legal, aviation, corporate communications, community development and government relations functions. Previously, she served as EVP, General Counsel and Secretary.
Mahoney joined Nash Finch in 2004 and was a member of the Executive Steering Committee that oversaw the integration of Spartan Stores, Inc. and Nash Finch Company in 2013.
Previously, she served as Managing Partner of Larson King, LLP as well as Partner at Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly. Mahoney began her law career a clerk before joining the Antitrust Division of the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office as the Special Assistant Attorney General.
She currently serves on the Best Lawyers® Advisory Board, a group of distinguished legal professionals representing the world’s leading law firms and Fortune 500 companies. Mahoney also serves on the Warriors at Ease Board of Directors, in addition to the SpartanNash Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
In 2016, Mahoney was named one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Michigan by Crain’s Detroit Business. She has also been honored with the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal Corporate Counsel Award and was named a Top 25 Industry Leader by the publication. She was also honored as one of the Top Women in Grocery by Progressive Grocer.
Mahoney earned her juris doctorate from Syracuse University College of Law, where she graduated cum laude. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Minnesota State, Michigan State and Ramsey County Bar Associations.
Chris Meyers joined SpartanNash in April 2016 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Meyers oversees accounting, financial planning and analysis, treasury, internal audit, risk management, investor relations and merger and acquisition functions for the company.
He previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for Naperville, Ill.-based KeHE Distributors, the second largest natural and organic wholesaler in North America.
Meyers holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in finance, strategy from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He is a certified public accountant.
Larry Pierce was named Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Marketing for SpartanNash in July 2014, a position he held on an interim basis since August 2013. Previously, Pierce was the Vice President of Center Store Merchandising for six years.
Pierce joined the company in 2008 after serving in a variety of positions with Coca-Cola Enterprises, including Vice President of Sales for the supermarket’s mass and convenience channels.
Pierce holds a bachelor’s degree with honors from Michigan State University, where he majored in food systems economics and management. He earned his juris doctorate from the University of Detroit School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
Yvonne Trupiano has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer since October 2016, responsible for talent development, labor relations, compensation and benefits, payroll and HR operations, management and development.
Trupiano joined SpartanNash from Avis Budget Group, where she held the position of Vice President, Human Resources as well as other leadership roles that supported the company’s integration of new businesses, including the 2013 acquisitions of ZipCar and Payless Car Rental.
Trupiano holds a Bachelor of Science, Human Resource Development from Oakland University and a Master of Science, Human Resource Administration from Central Michigan University.
She serves on the Heart of West Michigan United Way Board of Directors.
Daniel Persinger joined SpartanNash in 2014, serving as Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary. He previously spent 10 years in private practice at Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, where he represented Spartan Stores in its securities and business transactions.
Persinger is a business attorney focused on securities law, mergers and acquisitions, contracts and corporate compliance. He received his juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School and his bachelor’s in economics from Harvard.
He is President of the Board of Directors of St. Cecilia Music Center, a historic performing arts center in Grand Rapids, Mich. He also serves as Secretary of the SpartanNash Foundation, the charitable giving arm of the company.
