Habitat for Humanity

Building hope and affordable housing in our local communities, Feb. 7-18

The SpartanNash Foundation is hosting a companywide effort to build hope and affordable housing in the communities we serve. From Feb. 7-18, customers who visit any SpartanNash-owned retail store or fuel center in eight states will have the opportunity to donate $1, $5 or $10 at any checkout lane.

One hundred percent of dollars raised will support local Habitat for Humanity partners selected by each of SpartanNash’s more than 140 corporate-owned stores.

Last year, through the generosity and support of our store guests, associates and the SpartanNash Foundation, more than $200,000 was granted to 79 local Habitats in eight states. To put that another way, together we supported Habitats as they built:

  • Green space: $500 covers the cost of creating a yard, fence and landscaping, making a place where a child can safely play. $200,000 = 400 safe backyards in local communities.
  • Education: $1,000 covers the cost of training and materials for homebuyer financial stability and savings workshops. $200,000 = 200 homebuyers taking the necessary classes for a secure financial future.
  • Accessibility: $1,500 covers the cost of building materials for homeowners that partner with Habitat to build or repair a ramp. $200,000 = eliminating barriers in 133 homes.
  • Fellowship: $5,000 covers the cost of materials to build a new kitchen for a family to daily gather and create memories. $200,000 = 40 kitchen projects.

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The organization is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

Habitat homebuyers invest 300-500 hours of sweat equity into homebuilding and mentorship classes, where they learn the responsibilities and criteria to maintain the Habitat home they purchase on a zero-percent interest rate.

Every dollar matters as we work to build hope and affordable housing for hardworking Habitat homeowners. Visit your nearest participating store to learn more about the local Habitat they’ve partnered with during the 12-day scan.
