Building hope and affordable housing in our local communities
Together with our store guests and company associates, the SpartanNash Foundation’s scan campaign to build hope and affordable housing raised $176,700 on behalf of more than 50 local Habitat for Humanity partners in Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Since 2006, nearly $1.7 million has been raised by SpartanNash and the SpartanNash Foundation to support local Habitats and hardworking homebuyers.
To put that another way, the $176,700 raised between Feb. 7 and 18 will support Habitats as they build:
- Green space: $500 covers the cost of creating a yard, fence and landscaping, making a place where a child can safely play. $176,700 = more than 350 safe backyards in local communities.
- Education: $1,000 covers the cost of training and materials for homebuyer financial stability and savings workshops. $176,700 = 175 homebuyers taking the necessary classes for a secure financial future.
- Accessibility: $1,500 covers the cost of building materials for homeowners that partner with Habitat to build or repair a ramp. $176,700 = eliminating barriers in 115 homes.
- Fellowship: $5,000 covers the cost of materials to build a new kitchen for a family to daily gather and create memories. $176,700 = more than 35 kitchen projects.
Thank you to everyone who joined forces with the SpartanNash Foundation and our associates to support this worthy cause!
Habitat for Humanity’s vision is to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The organization is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
Habitat homebuyers invest 300-500 hours of sweat equity into homebuilding and mentorship classes, where they learn the responsibilities and criteria to maintain the Habitat home they purchase on a zero-percent interest rate.
One hundred percent of dollars raised go directly to local Habitat for Humanity partners selected by each of SpartanNash’s more than 140 corporate-owned stores.
