David M. Staples
Dave Staples has served as SpartanNash’s Chief Executive Officer since May 2017. In August 2016, he was appointed President of the company, leading SpartanNash’s overall strategy implementation and execution.
Dave previously served as Chief Operating Officer (2015-17), overseeing SpartanNash’s food distribution, retail and military segments in addition to information technology and real estate. He also held the title of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for 15 years and Vice President of Finance for a year.
Dave served as Divisional Vice President of Strategic Planning and Reporting (1998-2000) and Divisional Vice President of Accounting Operations (1997-98) for Kmart Corporation.
Dave serves on the board of the SpartanNash Foundation, Topco Associates LLC and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI).
He is a graduate of Michigan State University.
Ted Adornato has served as Executive Vice President since 2003, overseeing SpartanNash’s corporate retail operations. In March 2018, Ted was promoted to General Manager, leading the corporate retail business unit for all corporate retail banners and Quick Stop fuel and convenience centers.
Before joining the company, Ted served as Eastern Region Vice President of Tops Markets, LLC, a subsidiary of Royal Ahold, from 1998 to 2003. He also held a variety of management positions with Tops Markets and Acme Markets, Inc.
Ted serves on the board of trustees of the SpartanNash Foundation. He previously served on the boards of the National Grocers Association, JDRF and Habitat for Humanity of Kent County.
Ted is a graduate of the Binghamton University School of Management.
David deS. Couch
Dave Couch was named Senior Vice President in March 2018, having served as Chief Information Officer since 2013. Previously, he was the company’s Vice President of Information Technology, a title he held since 1996. For five years prior, Couch was Director of Information Technology.
Prior to joining Spartan Stores in 1987, Dave was a Product Manager for the Colorado Telecommunication Division of Hewlett Packard Corporation, Technical Services Manager for the Loveland Instrument Division of Hewlett Packard Corporation and Manager of Computer Services at General Foods Corporation in Battle Creek, Mich. He was also on the Processing Facilities Design Team for General Foods in White Plains, N.Y.
Dave holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Arizona.
Bob Kirch has held the role of Executive Vice President SpartanNash and President of Caito Foods since January 2017, when the companies joined forces to bring fresh produce and fresh protein-based meals and snacks to more consumers throughout the U.S. He served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Caito Foods Services, Inc. from 2005-2012, and was named President and CEO of Caito Foods in 2012.
Bob has worked in many aspects of the fresh produce distribution and fresh food processing business, including merchandising, operations, procurement, marketing and strategic development.
Bob serves on the board of the United Fresh Produce Association and is the chairman of its Wholesaler-Distributor Board.
He is a graduate of Butler University, holding both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in marketing.
Tom Lee was named Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer in March 2018, overseeing SpartanNash’s companywide supply chain and instituting innovative supply chain solutions for the company’s wholesale, retail, military and food production segments.
Tom joined SpartanNash in 2017 as Senior Vice President, Supply Chain. Prior to that, he served as Vice President, Merchandising Operations, U.S. e-Commerce for Walmart as well as Vice President, Supply Chain Innovations, Global e-Commerce for the company. He has also held supply chain leadership positions for Henry Schein and Office Depot and has been a senior-level consultant for both Ernst & Young and KPMG.
Tom serves on the board of the Grand Rapids Symphony.
He holds a master’s in executive managerial business administration from Vanderbilt University and a bachelor’s in economics from Emory University.
Kathleen M. Mahoney
Kathy Mahoney was appointed President of MDV in May 2017, overseeing the company’s military division, which is the leading distributor of grocery products to U.S. military commissaries. She has also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer since November 2015.
Prior to joining the company, Kathy served as Managing Partner of the St. Paul office of Larson King, LLP as well as Partner at Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly. She previously served as a law clerk to the Minnesota Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York before joining the Antitrust Division of the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office as the Special Assistant Attorney General.
Kathy serves on the Best Lawyers® Advisory Board, the SpartanNash Foundation board of trustees and the Honor and Remember board of directors.
Kathy earned her juris doctorate from Syracuse University College of Law, where she graduated cum laude. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Minnesota State, Michigan State and Ramsey County Bar Associations.
Larry Pierce was named Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Marketing for SpartanNash in July 2014, a position he held on an interim basis since August 2013. Previously, Larry was the Vice President of Center Store Merchandising for six years.
Larry joined the company in 2008 after serving in a variety of positions with Coca-Cola Enterprises, including Vice President of Sales for the supermarket’s mass and convenience channels.
Larry serves on the board of the National Grocers Association, Western Michigan University’s Food Marketing advisory board and Topco Associates, LLC operations team.
Larry holds a bachelor’s degree with honors from Michigan State University, where he majored in food systems economics and management. He earned his juris doctorate from the University of Detroit School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
Mark Shamber has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since September 2017, overseeing finance, mergers and acquisitions, treasury, internal audit, real estate and risk management for the company.
Prior to joining SpartanNash, Mark worked from 2015-2017 as an independent consultant. From 2006 to 2015, he served as SVP, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) — a specialty and organic food distributor. From 2003 to 2006, he served as UNFI’s corporate controller. Earlier in his career, he worked in the audit practice of Ernst & Young LLP and in the finance department of Reebok International Ltd.
Shamber is a member of the Financial Executives International, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
He is a graduate of Bentley University and is a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
Yvonne Trupiano was named Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources & Corporate Affairs and Communications Officer in March 2018. She provides overall leadership to the company’s human resources and corporate affairs and communications functions, which are responsible for advancing culture, talent and performance. Her primary areas of responsibility include executive and broad-based compensation and benefits, succession planning, talent acquisition and management, learning and development, organizational design and effectiveness, labor relations, HRIS, payroll, diversity and inclusion, and corporate affairs and communications.
Yvonne joined SpartanNash as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer in October 2016. Previously, she held the position of Vice President, Human Resources at Avis Budget Group, in addition to other HR leadership roles during her tenure there.
Yvonne holds a Bachelor of Science, Human Resource Development from Oakland University and a Master of Science, Human Resource Administration from Central Michigan University.
She serves on the Heart of West Michigan United Way Board of Directors.
Pat Weslow was named Senior Vice President and General Manager of Distribution in March 2018, having previously served as Senior Vice President, Distribution Sales since 2016. In his role, he leads the distribution business unit, including independent retail and national accounts.
Prior to joining SpartanNash in 2014 as Vice President of National Accounts, Pat held executive sales and marketing positions with Acosta and Coca-Cola, including Vice President, Retail Operations (Acosta), and Director of National Retail Sales and Director of Supermarket Sales for Coca-Cola.
Pat received his degree in Business Management from Western Michigan University.
He currently serves on the board of directors of the Spartan Stores YMCA.
